The fact is that earlier this product was assessed as a niche for vegans and other eco-activists, but it turned out to be a rather popular alternative in the eyes of the mass consumer.

Against the backdrop of a massive refusal of meat products, the Beyond Meat market has grown significantly and strengthened its position.

How are things in Russia?

At the end of 2019, they grew in Russiaartificial meat.  The development was carried out by the Ochakovsky Food Ingredients Plant. The resulting 40 grams of beef from a Petri dish were valued by experimenters at 900 thousand rubles. They promise to reduce the cost of production so that lab-grown beef will appear in stores by 2023.

In Russia, you can try plant-based meat in the TGI Friday’s, Pizza Hut and Teremok chains. You can also buy the semi-finished product in food stores: “Azbuka Vkusa”, “Globus”, “Vkusville”.

Fast food chains regularly introduceartificial meat or its alternatives  to your list of dishes. For example, today, July 16, it became known that IKEA will begin selling plant-based meatballs similar to meat in Russia. The company said that the product will not be made from artificial meat, but from a mixture of vegetables: pea protein, oats, apples and potatoes. 

In addition, KFC planned to startproduction of artificial meat nuggets together with the biotechnological laboratory 3D Bioprinting Solutions, which was founded by the medical company Invitro. The surrogate will be meat produced using a bioprinter.

Why do people eat artificial meat?

One of the main reasons to stop consuming natural meat is the amount of emissions that remain from production.

Beyond Meat conducted researchtogether with the Center for Resilient Systems at the University of Michigan and concluded that  producing one plant-based burger generates 90% less greenhouse gases, requires 45% less energy, 99% less water and 93% less land than a pound of American beef. 

According to FAIRR, which brings together investors inlivestock industry, on average, more than 70 billion animals are sent to agricultural enterprises for slaughter annually. Agriculture accounts for 40% of land use, 30% of greenhouse gas emissions and 70% of fresh water consumption.
