Philips TVs 2020-2021: OLED+ and AI processors

</ img>

Philips flagship TVs have always beenexhibition and “festival” in nature - they had the maximum possible range of technologies and constantly received awards from EISA - the European association of experts in the field of sound and image. The 2020 OLED+ 935 TV series, developed in partnership with Bowers & Wilkins, which has been going on for more than one year, has already received the corresponding award from this year’s association “for the best TV for home theater.” It uses the best sound and image processing technologies, the best materials, and all this runs on Android TV. Moreover, some of the technologies are available in more mass-produced TV lines this year.

Philips P5 Picture Processor AI 4th generation

In the fourth generation of Philips P5 processorsPicture a coprocessor has appeared (the manufacturer is talking about a separate chip) for working with neural networks. The use of neural networks for image processing is already in full swing in smartphones and is coming to TVs. All of these machine learning technologies allow technology manufacturers to label their products with a generic AI term that inspires respect and makes a succinct statement about new capabilities. In principle, all image enhancements are carried out in 5 directions: source, color, contrast, motion and sharpness. The use of machine learning analysis of millions of test videos collected by the company’s engineers over 30 years of its work makes it possible to improve the picture even more effectively. You can see how it works in the demo video:

Speakers Bowers & Wilkins, edge-to-edge screen and new processor are also used in other Philips 9000 series TVs:

Philips OLED+ series TVs use their own uniqueOLED burnout protection technology. In particular, it analyzes 32,400 zones ondetects static areas (for example, TV channel logos) and automatically reduces the brightness in these areas without compromising the brightness of the rest of the screen area. The manufacturer says that this systemeliminates OLED burn-in problem for 95% of static imagesincluding logos and game content.

The 935 Series uses Bowers &Wilkins, housed in a separate bottom panel, and featuring ten 3.1.2 specification drivers, including three 19mm titanium dome tweeters. At the same time, the top tweeter speaker is installed in a separate hard chrome-plated metal housing, giving the TV a recognizable appearance:

DTS Play-Fi: Wireless Sound Throughout Your Home

Another new technology emerging in thisyear on Philips TVs - DTS Play-Fi. It provides a wireless connection from any compatible speaker system in your home to your TV. In practice, this will allow you to hear the sound from the TV in any speaker located in the house: in the kitchen, office or bedroom. What those who like to raid the refrigerator while watching a movie or a sports match will appreciate. Google Assistant, Alexa and Apple AirPlay are supported.

What else is interesting in this updated line:

 • 4-sided Ambilight with AbmiAwake and AmbiSleep modes;
 • expensive materials: leather, steel, chrome-plated metal and special Kvadrat fabric for acoustics;
 • new picture modes: Pure Cinema, Movie and Filmmaker;
 • Premium metallic remote control with backlit keys the sides and back of the remote are covered with leather, produced by the Scottish company Muirhead;
 • speakers according to the Dolby Atmos Elevation specification;
 • support for Dolby Vision HDR technologies using a special Dolby Bright mode for dynamic scenes, and, of course, HLG, HDR10, HDR10+

Separately, the company did not fail to remind about itsa unique advantage in the form of Ambilight, thanks to which it is now possible to "improve everything" (we are, of course, about the visual perception of any content coming from the TV, as a center of entertainment for home - movies, games and even music):

The entire current line of Philips TVs now includes 16 series.

Philips Fidelio L3 Active Noise Canceling Headphones

Another great news is the announcementPhilips Fidelio L3 headphones with active noise cancellation. In general, the Philips Fidelio series of headphones made a strong impression (we have a review of the Fidelio L1 and Fidelio M1 models). Models L1 and L2 were not cheap, but they were distinguished not only by excellent sound, but also by expensive materials. The creators of the Philips Fidelio L3 promise support for Bluetooth 5.0, active noise cancellation using hybrid technology using 4 microphones, aptX HD, 35 hours of battery life (30 using noise cancellation) and fast charging (15 minutes of charging for 6 hours of use) via a USB-C connector. The earcups support gesture control, and there is support for Google's voice assistant. By the way, Philips Fidelio L3 has already received the 2020 Red Dot award for its design.

Here is a demo video, in it,for example, you can see gesture control: if you cover the earcup with your palm, you can hear external sounds (which will be convenient in transport, at a train station or airport - where you need to listen to announcements). Overall, it could be a worthy competitor to the Sony WH-1000X M4.

Philips TWS Noise Canceling Headphones T8505/T5505

Finally, a new product, the appearance of which the editorsggwill also be waiting to twirl in hisplayful hands - Philips T8505 TWS headphones with active noise reduction. They have everything that is found in advanced models of this class: 13 mm speakers, Bluetooth 5.0 with support for Google Fast Pair, support for Google and Apple voice assistants, battery life up to 6 hours (up to 5 with activated noise reduction), fast charging (15 minutes of charging gives an hour of use), USB-C connector in the charging case, touch controls and IPX4 water protection.

The Philips T5505 model is a little simpler - it has 8 mm speakers and a slightly shorter battery life - up to 5 hours (4.5 hours with noise reduction turned on).

In the dry residue

Despite the absence of IFA this year,where we always saw new Philips products, the company presented the entire updated line of TVs that will be relevant at least until the spring of 2021. Most of them will be sold in Ukraine, but, unfortunately, not all. In addition to the new generation of processors that have received a coprocessor for working with neural networks, which will further improve the performance of TVs in terms of improved picture quality, older models of Philips TVs stand out for their Bowers & Wilkins. New is support for DTS Play-Fi technology, making it easy to connect wireless speakers throughout your home. Also of interest are the new Performance series TVs, which were already warmly received by customers last year (don’t forget to check out our review). A real event on the market could be the return of premium acoustics and headphones from the Fidelio series. The Fidelio N97 soundbar model looks interesting, consisting of three independent modules housing 17 speakers. Philips noise-cancelling headphones will also have their place in the sun - this is the top model of closed-back headphones Fidelio L3, which, hopefully, will continue the best traditions of its predecessors. And the Philips T8505 TWS headphones, the appearance of which we will definitely expect. According to preliminary information, all these new products should appear on our market, albeit in limited supplies (still, this is not a mass product, with an appropriate price and for a relatively small audience). In any case, we will do everything in our power to introduce these new products to our most curious readers in the world.
