Previously, the use of "widgets" was limitedthe Today tab, accessed by swiping from left to right on the home screen. However, in iOS 14, widgets have undergone design and functionality changes so that any widget available in Today view can also be added to the home screen along with your apps.
How to add widgets to the Home Screen
There are several ways to add "widgets" tohome screen. If you long press on the widget in the Today section, you will see the Edit Home Screen pop-up menu. By clicking on this button, you enter wiggle mode, and from there you can drag and drop widgets from Today and place them anywhere on your home screen.
In wiggle mode, notice the buttonPlus (+) in the upper left corner of the screen. The same button will appear if you long press on an empty area of the home screen or on any additional application page. Clicking on this button opens the widget gallery, where you can add and customize widgets.
In the widget gallery, you can search for a specificwidget or scroll through available options. Clicking on a widget in the list allows you to see the size and content options that are available for the widget. To add a widget to Today or Home, select it, choose a size (small, medium, or large), and then click the Add Widget button.
Widget sizes and other features
When setting up a new widget, you will notice thatThe larger the widget size, the more content it can display. For example, in the Weather widget, the smallest widget shows current conditions, and the largest — forecast for the next few days.
Remember that large "widgets" take up morehome screen locations ”. A small widget takes up the space of four square applications, the middle widget takes up the space of eight rectangular applications, and a large widget takes up the space of 16 square applications.
Some applications also have differentparameters of widgets depending on the function. For example, in the Apple News widget, you can choose to view relevant news of the day or receive stories about a topic of interest. You can change this feature in the existing Apple News widget at any time. Just press and hold the widget and then select "Edit".
When you have widgets on your home screen, you can move them around like apps. Just press and hold the screen to enter wiggle mode and then drag the widget with your finger.
In the Widget Gallery if you scroll down tosection of the list, you will see the Siri Suggestions widget. This dynamic widget displays app suggestions based on your iPhone usage habits, similar to what appears in Siri Suggestions when using iPhone search
You can also overlay multiple "widgets"on top of each other, so you can group all your favorites together and then swipe up or down between them. Apple has also added a feature to show you the most relevant and useful widget based on your iPhone usage habits.

Apple allows developers to createcustom home screen widgets to expand in-app functionality, so keep an eye on available widgets for your favorite third-party apps.
