How Russia built cellular communications in Crimea bypassing sanctions

Exactly six years ago, on August 4, 2014, the first Russian cellular communication was launched in Crimea.

became the K-Telecom company, whose networkdeployed on former MTS-Ukraine frequencies. At the time of launch, there were 1.5 thousand base stations in the network. The infrastructure on the peninsula was created over several months, and mass sales of SIM cards with the Russian prefix “+7” started back in June 2014. Coverage by third and fourth generation networks appeared in Crimea in spots.
