North Korea successfully launched the Hwasong-18 intercontinental ballistic missile towards Japan, which can carry a nuclear warhead and has a maximum launch range of 15,000 km

North Korea continues to develop its missile program. Recently, North Korea successfully launched

Hwasong-18 intercontinental ballistic missile.

What is known

North Korean officials are positioning the missile launch as a response to the actions of reconnaissance aircraft of the US Air Force. Japan and South Korea, as usual, followed the launch and gave their assessments.

Hwasong-18 was launched towards Japan. The ICBM rose to an altitude of over 6,000 km and traveled approximately 1,000 km before crashing into the sea between Japan and the Korean Peninsula. It took her 4491 seconds, i.e. the average speed was 222.67 m/s.

Hwasong-18 is equipped with solid propellant engines. As such, it is believed to be more difficult to intercept than previous ICBMs used by North Korea.

The mass of Hwasong-18 is 55-60 tons, the height is25 meters and a diameter of 2 meters. North Korea's intercontinental ballistic missile can carry a warhead with a nuclear warhead weighing 1.25-1.5 tons.

As we wrote, Hwasong-18 flew approximately 1000km. The maximum launch range is about 15,000 km. During the flight, the missile rose to an altitude of almost 6648.4 km to evade air defense systems. This is a record.
