A California-based company has launched the world's first zero-gravity drug lab and hypersonic testing lab into orbit.

The Varda company from California was able to launch into orbit the first factory that will create

various materials, including medicines, in zero gravity conditions. The experiment will last a little over a month.

What is known

Plant with a diameter of about 70 cm will rotatearound our planet at an altitude of 1000 km and will return to Earth in about a month. The first task of the orbital laboratory will be to study the behavior of the AIDS drug. It will be heat-treated to study the behavior of crystals when there is little to no gravity.

When returning to Earth, the speed of the module is cthe plant will reach Mach 25 (30,626.1 km/h). Varda has already agreed with the military that the capsule will be used as a stand for testing hypersonic technologies. For this purpose, the US Air Force allocated $60 million and guaranteed future funding.

At an altitude of about 40 km above the Earth's surfacespeed will still exceed Mach 5 (6174 km/h). When the speed drops even more, the parachutes will open, which will provide the capsule with a soft landing.

If all goes according to plan, Varda intends toto complete a second mission at the end of 2023. In addition, the Company wants to launch a production station that will remain in orbit all the time. Materials and equipment will be delivered there on the same principle as to the International Space Station.
