Competitor Neuralink has received permission to test on humans

This week the company, which is a direct competitor of Elon Musk and his Neuralink, received an official

permission from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to begin clinical trials in humans.

Synchron, a company that developscomputer-brain interfaces, announced that it has received valuable clearance from the FDA. Let us remind you that Neuralink, for example, does not yet have it. Synchron – creators of the Stentrode, a device that is placed in the brains of paralyzed patients to help them control digital devices, such as a computer mouse cursor, with the power of thought. This is achieved by the Stentrode communicating with a second implant that is located in the person's chest, both connected by a small cable. The processed signals coming from the brain are sent through a special transmitter to a digital device located next to the patient.

What's interesting about Stentrode is thatUnlike other similar interfaces, its installation does not require surgery. It is injected into a blood vessel at the base of the neck and directed to one of the vessels in the brain. The procedure is minimally invasive and takes only two hours. “It's like putting a stent in the heart,” – state in Synchron.

In the near future, the company plans to starttesting with six patients at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York. Synchron has already experimented with people in Australia, for example. Two of them managed to control digital devices with their thoughts: to send text and email messages, to perform some smaller work tasks. Moreover, they used the Internet to shop and trade online.
