Roman temple dedicated to Mars god of war found

Archaeologists have discovered a first-century temple to the Roman god of war Mars in northwestern France.

BC.Now scientists have collected many artifacts there: 35 boxes of ceramic furniture, seven boxes of various architectural terracotta elements, as well as 755 individual objects made of glass, metal, and ceramics. Among them are a dozen iron swords, four hooks, several brooches and many weapons.

It was discovered last year in La Chapelle-des-Fougeretz and was probably visited by Roman soldiers sent to the region. The size of the sanctuary indicates that it was an important place from a religious point of view.

According to the statement, the sanctuaryat La Chapelle des Fougères dates close to that time and was in use until the fifth century AD. Archaeologists are not sure why the complex was abandoned, but it may be related to the collapse of the Western Roman Empire around that time.
