NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO) has been in operation for a decade.
The SDO instruments allow it to take pictures of the star every 0.75 seconds. The video shows images taken in the ultraviolet range at a wavelength of 17.1 nm.This means that the photo captures the solar corona — the outer layers of the star's atmosphere.
The video lasts 61 minutes. It demonstrates the rise and fall of solar activity, which occurs within the 11-year cycle. In the video, you can even observe such phenomena as the passage of planets against the background of a star and a flare.
