Air leak rate on ISS increased fivefold

He emphasized that due to the increased fivefold speed, it was necessary to carry out two isolations of the Russian

station segment.

Roskosmos stressed that the leak does not threaten either the station or the cosmonauts.

They first started talking about her in September 2019.At that time, the station was losing 270 grams of air per day. In August, we carried out the first isolation of the ISS crew because the rate of leakage had doubled — up to 540 grams per day. In September it increased another 2.5 times.

Re-isolation of the crew on the Russian segmenttakes place this weekend. It is expected to end on Monday after 11.00 Moscow time. It is noted that this will help determine the location of the leak.

The department clarified that the management groupduring the flight of the Russian segment of the ISS, together with foreign partners, analyzes the situation and continues to search for the source of the air leak. In this case, the planned work at the station also does not stop. The Zarya, Zvezda, Poisk modules, the Progress MS cargo vehicle and the manned Soyuz MS are available to the crew to perform routine missions. Two Russian cosmonauts Anatoly Ivanishin and Ivan Wagner, as well as NASA astronaut Christopher Cassidy, are currently working in orbit.
