At WWDC, Apple may announce the abandonment of the famous phrase “Hey Siri” - Bloomberg

In just a few days, the traditional Apple WWDC conference will start, at which the company should present

new interesting gadgets. But not only that: Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reports that the event will feature not only presentations, but also important announcements.

What to expect

The insider believes that Apple may announceat WWDC about an important change. This is a departure from the well-known phrase “Hey Siri,” which is the command to launch the Siri voice assistant. Instead, users will simply need to say “‌Siri‌.”

"Although this may seem like a small change, switching is a technical problem that requires a significant amount of AI training and basic engineering work. The tricky part is that Siri can understand the single phrase “Siri” in several different accents and dialects. Having two words—“Hey Siri”—increases the likelihood that the system will correctly pick up the signal,” explains Mark Gurman.

This will bring Siri closer to Alexa, which is activated by simply saying “Alexa.”

Mark Gurman originally thought Siri's changes would go into effect sometime in 2023 or 2024, but his predictions have now changed.
