Blizzard allows World of Warcraft players to change the gender of their character, but in return they ask $15 for it. With the release of the Shadowlands update, the service will become free.
What is known
In an interview with Eurogamer, executive producerBlizzard Entertainment John Hight has announced that players will no longer have to pay to change their character's gender. The development team decided that the paid service for gender reassignment in World of Warcraft conveyed the “wrong message”, so they decided to transfer this opportunity to the hairdresser. There, users can change their hairstyle, face, skin color, and more for free.
“For quite a long time we [in World of Warcraft]There was a skill for players that allowed them to change their appearance - this was a paid service. Many of the opportunities that the ability provided carried over to the barbershop. And when we were working on the Shadowlands content, we realized: “Damn, the only way to change gender in World of Warcraft is to use a paid service.” The team felt it was sending the wrong message,” says Hite.
The changes will only take effect with the release of Shadowlands, as the developers cannot make changes right now.
As Eurogamer notes, the conversation about gender reassignmentstarted during the discussion of Pelagos. According to the community, this is the first transgender character in World of Warcraft. The hero is a member of the Kyria covenant, which, when moving on to their responsibilities, can choose a bodily shell that reflects their true essence. As a mortal, Pelagos was a woman, but when he became a Kyria, he chose a male body.
