New Google app will block a smartphone bought in installments due to non-payment

Google has created an application that will block a smartphone purchased in installments if the owner is late in payment.

for four days. For now, this only works in Kenya, and the company has not said whether it will expand the solution to other countries.

Authors of XDA Developers noticed on Google PlayStore app Device Lock Controller. From its description it follows that it allows creditors to take control of a smartphone. For example, a lender can remotely restrict access to a device if the owner does not make payments. When locked, the smartphone will only be able to make emergency calls and access settings.

Google XDA Developers said thatDevice Lock Controller was launched in collaboration with Kenyan operator Safaricom. It will oversee a program through which Kenyans can buy a new Android Go Edition smartphone in installments. The application will block the device after four days of non-payment. Google said the Device Lock Controller was not supposed to appear in the Play Store. It is unclear whether the company is planning similar partnerships with other operators.
