AWEI T19 Review: TWS Headphones with Powerbank Function

</ img>

Have you ever recharged your phone with headphones?

then look what Chinese thought has come to.AWEI T19 are TWS (fully wireless) headphones with Bluetooth 5.0, good sound, decent battery life, gaming mode, but most interestingly, with the function of recharging other devices from the charging box. This feature in itself is not new. Enterprising Chinese manufacturers have come up with a variety of features for TWS headphones, including a built-in power bank, so the AWEI T19 has a lot of competitors. From extremely cheap headphones (less than $10) with a small battery (2000 mAh) to something more similar to a real small 3600 mAh power bank with headphones, and not vice versa, and for $20. Our current AWEI T19 ears on Aliexpress cost from $33 (approximately 960 UAH), while according to the passport, the battery capacity in the charging box is 2500 mAh. The higher price, compared to no-names, is justified by the very good sound and feeling of a quite high-quality item. AWEI is one of the niche Chinese brands with experience in making headphones, so the device turned out surprisingly well. But not without nuances, which we will now talk about in order.

AWEI T19

TWS earbuds capable of charging a smartphone

Inexpensive TWS earbuds, Bluetooth 5.0, have splash and sweat protection (IPX5), two built-in microphones and touch buttons for control. The charging box has a display showing the current charge and can act as a 2500 mAh power bank to charge other devices (but there may be problems with Apple technology). Produces good sound with bright lows but lacks highs. Outside the box, they can play music continuously for up to five hours.

4 reasons to buy AWEI T19:

  • good sound with pleasant bass;
  • good autonomy;
  • powerbank function;
  • high-quality box with an LCD display.

3 reasons not to buy AWEI T19:

  • relatively weak microphones;
  • no support for multiple devices at the same time;
  • possible problems with charging iPhone from the built-in USB port.

What is in the box?

In the box, in addition to the headphones themselves in the charging box, there is a short USB cable, three pairs of interchangeable ear pads, instructions and an advertising booklet.

What do they look like?

AWEI T19 comes in two color options:black and white. We received the black version. The body is completely plastic. The display is covered with a glossy insert, the rest of the body is matte. Moreover, both glossy and matte surfaces turned out to be surprisingly non-staining. Fingerprints are almost non-existent and the device does not appear to be “permanently hijacked”. The display is monochrome. It displays the current battery charge of the box as a percentage and the operating mode: “in” when the box itself is being charged from the mains and “out” when headphones or a third-party device are being charged from it. On the lid there is a white AWEI logo. There are no buttons or indicators on the case.

On the front side, under a rubber flap, two power connectors are hidden: microUSB input and USB-A output. The cap itself is attached to the body and, if you do not tear it off, it will not be lost.

The box lid opens upward and, when closed, snaps into place thanks to built-in magnets. The two headphones lie in separate recesses inside the box; they are also held in place by magnets and do not fall out.

The headphones are small and light, made entirely of blackmatte plastic. Each has a pair of contacts for charging and a built-in microphone. To avoid confusion, the right and left are marked with the letters R and L, respectively. The outer part of the earphone is occupied by a control touch panel. It is outlined by a white circle, which also plays the role of a turquoise LED indicator. In its center is a white AWEI logo, it does not glow.

Overall a nice device. This is such a solid, high-quality thing, non-staining and unbreakable.

How to connect and configure?

Simple, but not in the usual way.There is no traditional “pairing” button on the AWEI T19 case. So connecting headphones to your device is even easier than usual. You just need to open the lid and wait for the LED on the left earphone to blink (at the same time, the voice in the headphones says: “pairing”). Now the model name will appear in the list of Bluetooth devices available for connection on your smartphone or computer, and you just need to click on it. There is no application to control the headphones, and accordingly, there are no specific settings.

How are they managed?

The compactness of TWS headphones has a downside:There is no place to place controls. AWEI T19 has a minimum of them, one touch button for each “ear”. A short press (or rather, touch) on any of them pauses playback or resumes it. Double-tapping the left earbud switches to the previous track, and double-tapping the right earbud to the next one. A long touch adjusts the volume, increasing or decreasing it depending on the earphone (left is quieter, right is louder). A triple tap (that's what it comes down to!) on the left earbud launches the voice assistant, and on the right one, it switches modes from gaming to music and back. The headphones inform you by voice when switching modes. In theory, in game mode the delay when playing sounds should be reduced, but personally I was never able to feel the difference. There were no delays that interfered with the game in either the game or music modes. When there is an incoming call, a voice in your ears persistently repeats “incoming call”, and on your part, one touch of any earphone is responsible for receiving, and a double touch for hanging up. You can end an active call with a single touch. Now the main thing is not to get confused in all this.

How are they at work?

As for the touches themselves (ha ha, pun intended), thenThis method of control takes some getting used to. While you're getting used to how the headphones fit in your ears, you'll find yourself adjusting them involuntarily from time to time, touching the touch surface and causing unexpected effects. I would prefer physical buttons where pressing has a tactile response. But in modern technology they are used less and less, so it’s a matter of habit.

AWEI T19 supports HSP, HFP, A2DP profiles,AVRCP. The APT-X codec is not rated. In addition, unfortunately, these headphones cannot be connected to several devices at the same time (for example, a laptop and a smartphone). At least, it didn’t work out for me, and the manufacturer itself doesn’t say anything about multipoint support.

But from the pleasant - waterproof according to the IPX5 standard,that is, the headphones are sweat- and splash-proof and therefore suitable for active sports. The design rather disposes of this, if at all can be said about TWS headphones. Yes, they fit well in the ears and do not fall out, but this does not mean that they cannot be lost at all. As you wish, but I still think that wired headphones are more reliable in this regard. The earbuds are lightweight, each weighing only 4.9g, and can be worn for a long time without feeling tired in the ears.

There are no complaints about the range orThere is no connection stability, the headphones hold the connection confidently. But you can find fault with the work of the microphones. There are two of them, one for each earphone, and this is a plus, because you can talk even with one free ear. Only they are located quite far from the mouth. It is clear that this is a design feature, but some interlocutors pay attention to the deteriorated voice quality. However, they compare it with a classic headset, where the microphone is located directly in front of the mouth, so it is clear that audibility will be better there.

Special thanks to the developers for the delicateLED operation. They do not show themselves in any way in the usual way, and you do not walk around with flashing lights in your ears. To display the battery percentage on the display, simply open and close the cover.

What about autonomy?

Yes, this is the most interesting thing.Each earphone has a built-in 50 mAh battery, and inside the box there is another 2500 mAh battery. Simple math shows that the box should last for 25 full charges of the headphones. The headphones themselves work for a long time on a single charge, falling just short of the stated five hours of continuous music playback. For such kids this is very worthy. Moreover, you will still always put them in the box so as not to lose them, and there they will be constantly recharged.

Fully charging the headphones in the box takes a littleless than an hour. In turn, the box charges from zero to 100% in about three hours, and shows 50% after 50 minutes (although at this moment it actually only reaches about 30% of the capacity, I’ll tell you more about this later). What fits into it is not quite the promised 2500 mAh, but somewhere around 2200. But this is quite enough for emergency charging of the smartphone, because the box has a USB port! In fact, if you carry headphones with you all the time, why not use the battery in their box to charge something else? I think this is a great idea.

Alas, there is a minus in the implementation:I was unable to recharge any Apple mobile device from AWEI T19. I tried several iPhone and iPad models that were at hand, they identify a certain accessory, but completely refuse to recognize it as a charger. For the experiments, I used both native Apple cables and the alternatives Ugreen and Baseus. Only one life hack worked. We connect a wireless charging station to the box, put an iPhone on it and voila - charging is on!

True, in this case we lose precious interest.capacity, and in general, you won’t also be carrying a wireless charging stand with you. You can also find opposite reviews on the Internet; it seems that someone’s iPhone is charging normally. Maybe I’m saying things in vain, and the problem described concerns only my specific instance. So, if you have an AWEI T19 and can charge your iPhone from them, be sure to share your experience in the comments. There are no problems with Android smartphones; they charge perfectly with any suitable cable. Charging works both with headphones inside the box and without them.

Separately, we need to talk about the specifics of the display.It shows just about anything, and if you don’t know this, you can draw the wrong conclusions about the capabilities of the device. For example, having 80% of the charge on the display, we put the headphones on charge, we see that the battery melts before our eyes and spends a third of the capacity on one charge of the headphones! Don't panic. With further discharge of the battery, the percentage countdown, on the contrary, will slow down obscenely. For example, if in 50 minutes the battery is discharged from 50% to 5%, then in the next 50 minutes only from 5% to 3%, while delivering current at the same rate. It's the same story with charging. Even if the display shows 99%, do not rush to disconnect the box from charging, it will fit another twenty percent, so wait for hundreds. As for the actual capacity, I wrote above that the device “includes” a little less than the declared 2500 mAh. “It turns out” a comparable value. At 50% on the indicator, you can count on at least 1200 honest mAh. A normal reserve, and you don’t need to carry a separate device with you.

How do they sound?

It seems like the headphones are inexpensive, and there are special delights fromyou shouldn't wait for them. But we remember that someone makes TWS “ears” and three times cheaper, so let’s listen to what we paid an extra twenty for. AWEI T19 produce a cheerful, dense sound with an emphasis on low frequencies. This is partly facilitated by the in-channel vacuum design, which provides good sound insulation. I had no complaints about the lack of active noise cancellation; on the contrary, sometimes the “transparency” mode that some headphones with ANC are equipped with would be useful. The mids do not feel overwhelmed, but the highs are lacking in places, which affects the detail of the sound. These headphones are suitable for energetic music with bright bass, but you should not trust them with complex instrumental works. In general, the sound is not bad for the money, I probably expected less.
