What is it?
Huawei MatePad Pro is a flagship tablet with 10.8-inch IPS display with a resolution of 2560 x 1600 (16:10 aspect ratio), flagship HiSilicon Kirin 990 processor, 6 GB of RAM and support for mobile networks.
</ p>What makes him interesting?
</ img>
Huawei MatePad Pro is a top tabletmanufacturer and one of the most advanced tablets on the market. It is positioned not only as the “most powerful tablet,” but also as a tool for creative people and some work. For this purpose, a keyboard cover and an M-pencil stylus are available as accessories. The tablet is equipped with a large 10.8-inch screen with WQXGA resolution and an aspect ratio of 16:10. Inside the tablet there is a flagship Kirin 990 processor, 6/8 GB of RAM and 128/256 GB of internal memory. In addition to the standard set of dual-band Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.1, mobile networks are supported. Among the interesting additional features, it is worth noting the Harman Kardon audio system with four speakers and five microphones. The tablet is powered by a 7250 mAh battery and supports wireless and reverse charging. Runs on Android 10 AOSP OS (without Google services) with EMUI 10.1 shell and additional “desktop” operating mode.
</ p>What is in the box?
</ img>
</ img>
Huawei MatePad Pro comes in a large boxwhite color with a minimum of printing, traditional for flagship Huawei devices. Inside there is a tablet, a 20 W charger, a USB Type-C cable, an adapter from Type-C to a 3.5 mm jack (there was no room for it on the case), a tool for removing the tray, and documentation.
</ img>
We also came to review the keyboard cover and the M-pencil stylus, we’ll talk about them a little later.
</ p>What does the Huawei MatePad Pro look like?
</ img>
</ img>
Considering the impressive diagonal 10.8 inches, Huawei MatePad Pro can be called quite compact and lightweight: 246x159x7.2 mm, 460 g. This was made possible thanks to small frames around the display perimeter and a magnesium alloy body. The frame width is 4.9 mm on all sides, and the screen occupies about 90% of the front surface area. The front camera is made in the form of a hole in the upper left corner of the screen. Which, with such dimensions, is not noticeable at all. Interestingly, the company decided to install a small LED indicator, which has become increasingly rare lately.
</ img>
From the front, the tablet looks minimalist andnice thanks to the thin symmetrical bezels and rounded corners of the screen that follow the shape of the case. The side edges have rounded edges and do not dig into the palm, although the tablet itself is quite thin. On the top (if the tablet is in horizontal orientation) there is a volume rocker, closer to the left edge, and four microphones. They are equidistant from each other.
</ img>
</ img>
Below is a tray in which you can install a SIM card and an NM memory card. They are still not for sale with us.
</ img>
</ img>
On the left side there are two speakers and a power button. On the right are two more speakers and a Type-C connector.
</ img>
</ img>
The back panel is matte, very pleasant to the touch. Our tablet is available in only one color, which is called gray on the website. In fact, visually it is dark blue. The coating is successful, fingerprints are almost invisible on it.
</ img>
</ img>
The main camera is located in the upper rightcorner. It is single, implemented as a solid elongated module with a flash and microphone. It protrudes above the body, which is not very aesthetically pleasing. On the other hand, when using a cover, the camera will contribute to a more secure fixation.
</ img>
In terms of usability, everything is almostfine. There were concerns about false clicks due to thin bezels. They were not confirmed: there were no problems during use. The only controversial (for me) design point is the lack of a headphone jack. Yes, there is an adapter included, but you won't be able to charge the tablet and watch a movie at the same time. Only if you have wireless headphones. Otherwise, there were no complaints either to the look or to the build quality / materials.
</ p>How good is the screen?
</ img>
The tablet has 10 installed.8-inch IPS display with a resolution of 2560x1600 (aspect ratio 16:10), pixel density - about 280 ppi. They promise DCI-P3 color gamut. The screen is of excellent quality, with rich rich colors and deep blacks. Viewing angles, of course, are maximum, and there are no complaints about brightness. The settings are similar to what we saw in the flagship smartphone Huawei P40 Pro: brightness, screen and font scale, dark interface theme, color modes and blue filter. There is no choice of screen refresh rate: the tablet uses a standard 60 Hz matrix. And there is no flicker reduction function, which is not relevant in this case. There are two color modes: “natural” and “rich” with manual color temperature adjustment, “natural tone” function, which adjusts the color temperature depending on the ambient light. Separately, it is worth noting the “e-book” mode, in which the image becomes monochrome with a bias towards warm shades.
</ img>
</ img>
</ img>
</ img>
</ img>
</ img>
Maximum brightness in “natural”mode was 409.268 cd/m2, black field brightness was 0.483 cd/m2, and contrast was 847:1. The color gamut is close to sRGB, there is a slight bias with cold shades:
</ img>
</ img>
</ img>
</ img>
</ img>
In “saturated” maximum modeThe brightness is slightly higher, 413.559 cd/m2, the black field brightness is 0.479 cd/m2, and the contrast is 863:1, and the color gamut is much wider than sRGB, close to the promised DCI-P3:

What about performance, memory, sound and autonomy?
Huawei MatePad Pro has a flagshipprocessor HiSilicon Kirin 990. Not to be confused with HiSilicon Kirin 990 5G, which is installed in the flagship smartphone Huawei P40 Pro. They are slightly different, although the difference in performance is absolutely not significant. Kirin 990 5G supports 5G, has a slightly higher core frequency and uses a more advanced NPU. This is where the significant differences end. Kirin 990 is produced using a 7-nanometer process technology, includes two ARM Cortex-A76 cores clocked at 2.86 GHz, two more ARM Cortex-A76 clocked at 2.09 GHz, four ARM Cortex-A55 cores at 1.86 GHz, 16-core graphics ARM Mali-G76 accelerator at 600 MHz and a dual neural processor, which is responsible for machine learning. The review included a tablet with 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of internal memory. But we have only one configuration available for sale: with 6 GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 128 GB of internal UFS 3.0 standard. In synthetic tests, the tablet demonstrates performance comparable to the P40 Pro. Simply put, the tablet is very powerful, its performance is enough for any tasks and heavy applications in any quantity.

The tablet also has no problems with heavy gameswill be, although the games themselves are not yet in AppGallery. Of the demanding only WoT Blitz and Asphalt 9. Everything else can be installed only from alternative sources.
</ img>
</ img>
</ img>
</ img>
Of course there is its own gaming utilityGame Space, which acts as a hub with all installed games and allows you to adjust performance when they launch, as well as turn off notifications.
</ img>
</ img>
The tablet has no problems with overheating. There is a performance hit in the CPU Throttling Test, but it is very minor, even in productive mode.
</ img>
The tablet has an audio system of fourspeakers branded by Harman Kardon. It's difficult to say how closely Harman Kardon was involved in the development, but the speakers sound very impressive, both in volume and quality. From personal impressions, it’s better than some laptops. And the five aforementioned microphones are designed to provide noise reduction and adequate voice transmission during video calls.
Wireless modules include dual-bandWi-Fi 802.11a/b/g/n/ac (wave2), MIMO, VHT160, 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz, Bluetooth 5.1 with support for SBC, AAC, LDAC HD Audio codecs. It supports operation in LTE mobile networks, and also supports global positioning systems GPS, GLONASS, Beidou, Galileo, QZSS. For wired connection, USB Type-C version 3.1 is used. The tablet has a 7150 mAh battery. Supports proprietary fast charging up to 40 W (20 W charger included). Using the supplied power supply, the tablet is fully charged in a little more than 2 hours. Supports wireless charging up to 15 W and reverse wireless charging 7.5 W. The manufacturer promises up to 12 hours of battery life: FullHD video playback from the device’s memory, brightness not specified. In PCMark, at 60% brightness, the tablet lasted about 10 hours, which is very good, especially considering that in real conditions, comfortable brightness is usually lower. So you can watch roughly 6 movies without recharging.

What are the unlock methods?
</ img>
</ img>
There is no fingerprint scanner in the tabletprovided. The only biometric protection method is recognition of the owner's face using the front camera, which is quite enough for a tablet. Works quickly and accurately, even in poor ambient light. The display illuminates the owner's face sufficiently for the recognition system to work.
</ p>How convenient is the interface?
</ img>
</ img>
The tablet runs on the Android operating system10 AOSP with proprietary EMUI 10.1 shell. We met her during reviews of the Huawei P40 Pro and P40. Of course, the interface is adapted for a large screen, but all the operating logic, functions and design are already well known. We added just a couple of functions, more on which below. There are familiar desktops with applications and widgets. It is possible to enable a separate menu with applications, customize the grid (4x6, 5x5 or 5x6), wallpaper, and select themes. There is a simple mode with larger icons and text.

To navigate the system there is a navigationpanel with buttons. You can choose its location (for example, move it to the left under your left thumb). An application manager and split into two windows mode are present, there is also a sidebar for launching an application launch in a window. The panel opens by pulling from the side of the screen and holding your finger:

From the standard applications there is a file manager, an email client, a Phone Clone application for transferring data from / to another device, Huawei Health, notes, a voice recorder, a compass, a device manager.

Among the unusual features, it is worth noting the presencedesktop mode. On a tablet with a large screen and a snap-on keyboard, it looks quite logical. The interface becomes logically similar to Windows or some variant of Linux. Applications open in windows, there is a similarity to “Start” and other things. It works quickly and without any bugs. But for complete happiness, it is better to connect a Bluetooth mouse: the keyboard cover does not have a touchpad.
</ img>
</ img>
</ img>
</ img>
Another interesting feature -“Multiscreen”. The bottom line is that you can connect a Huawei smartphone (with EMUI 10 shell) to the tablet, and the smartphone interface will be displayed on the tablet screen. In this mode you can “drag” with a simple Drag-and-drop back and forth the desired content, as well as make calls, while the smartphone will simply lie on the table.

</ img>
App Multiplier allows you to do different things at the same time in one application.
</ img>
</ img>
The situation is the same with applications and the ecosystem.just like in flagship smartphones. For example, Huawei P40 Pro. Huawei Mobile Services and the App Gallery application store are used, Google services are not. The App Gallery is actively expanding and replenished with applications, but still it still doesn’t have everything that we would like. This applies to both games and applications. From the point of view of “work” (And the Huawei MatePad Pro is positioned, among other things, as a device on which you can work) a bunch of office applications are already available, in particular WPS Office and Microsoft Office. If you use Gopogle Docs, it will be more difficult. If something is not yet available in the App Gallery, the More Apps application will help you find an alternative, or a source where you can download the APK. For example, the APKPure application. On the other hand, if you wish, you can spend half an hour and still install Google services. There is such a possibility; there are already enough detailed instructions on the Internet.

What accessories and additional features are there?
</ img>
</ img>
</ img>
M-pencil stylus looks and feelsresembles a regular pen. There are no controls or connectors on it, and there is no need for it. He “clings” magnets to the top end of the tablet, where it charges. The stylus recognizes 4096 levels of pressure and, in general, is convenient to use. Nebo and MyScript Calculator software are pre-installed for operation. The latter is quite understandable: handwritten entry of formulas followed by calculations, including roots of any degree, etc. Recognized perfectly. Nebo is a universal application that can do a bunch of things. There are handwritten notes and handwriting recognition. In my memory, the implementation is one of the best. In addition to this, of course there is a full set of drawing tools with various brushes and such. Among the interesting features, it is worth noting the ability to draw flowcharts. In this case, blocks, arrows and text in them are automatically recognized and brought into an adequate form. Protection against false touches is present: you can write or draw without any problems in the position that is familiar to your hand, pressing part of your palm against the screen, there will be no problems.

The cover has a standard design, as forsimilar accessories. It is attached to the tablet using magnets. It is worth saying that they are quite powerful: the cover does not “disappear” if you lift the entire structure. The color is dark blue, like a tablet. In “laptop” mode, the tablet can be placed at two different angles; there are corresponding recesses. The keyboard itself is very good: the buttons are comfortable and have sufficient informative action. The main complaint is the lack of a touchpad, while the competitor, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S6, has one. Considering that the Huawei MatePad Pro with keyboard is positioned as a partial, simplified laptop replacement, a touchpad would be very useful, especially in the desktop mode of the interface. One of the interesting features of the keyboard is the presence of NFC in the right Shift, with which you can quickly connect your smartphone to the tablet.
</ img>
</ img>
</ img>
Huawei MatePad Pro, even with accessories, is difficultcall it a complete replacement for a laptop. Yes, for basic work with office documents, mail, a browser, it is quite suitable. As for various sketches, sketches, sketches, handwritten notes, and more. But for full-fledged work with graphics, you still need at least full-featured software such as Photoshop, Illustrator, Corel Draw. And for comfortable work with browsers and documents, a mouse will not be superfluous.
</ p>How are things going with the camera?
The rear camera is far from the most necessary thingon the tablet, but it is there. Huawei MatePad Pro has a 13 megapixel camera with f/1.8 aperture, autofocus and flash. Video recording in 4K (3840×215;2160) @ 30fps is supported. The interface is simple and familiar: the main modes are switched by swiping, additional ones are in a separate menu. Including night and manual mode.
</ img>
</ img>
</ img>
</ img>
The camera is definitely inferior in qualityHuawei smartphones. But it is quite possible to take a photo if necessary. In sufficient lighting, the camera takes pretty decent pictures. Night photos turn out to be “noisy”:

In the dry residue
From a hardware point of view, Huawei MatePad Pro -Great flagship tablet. It is equipped with a gorgeous large-diagonal display, very efficient components, a very high-quality audio system with four speakers, a nice design and small dimensions (considering the diagonal). And additional accessories in the form of a stylus and a keyboard cover, together with the corresponding EMUI 10.1 add-ons, can greatly expand the functionality of the gadget. In fact, at the moment the Huawei MatePad Pro has only two competitors: the Apple iPad and the Samsung Galaxy Tab S6. The latter is significantly more expensive, but comes with a stylus and Google services. But the very feasibility of purchasing such a tablet remains questionable: this is still a niche device for those who clearly understand how they will use it and why. With connected accessories, Huawei MatePad Pro allows you to work with documents and do some sketches. But it does not become a full replacement for a working laptop/PC. And for YouTube and the browser there are cheaper models. If we put it all together, we can say this: if you are looking for a top-end tablet on Android and the absence of Google does not bother you (or you are not too lazy to download them), then the Huawei MatePad Pro is definitely an option to consider . The tablet is now standingUAH 18,000without accessories.
