The supermassive black hole Sagittarius A* (abbreviated as Sgr A*) is 4 million times more massive than the Sun. It lies 27,000 light years from Earth at the center of the Milky Way spiral galaxy.
Sgr A* has always been considered a sleeping black hole. But recently, an international team of researchers found that around the end of the 19th century, Sgr A* woke up and consumed gas and dust.
The "feast" lasted from several months to a year before the black hole returned to hibernation.
