Determined which graphics card is better - AMD or NVIDIA

Experts from Tom's Hardware have determined whose video cards are better - AMD or NVIDIA. They rated the performance

cost and other characteristics of models.

Ranked by Tom's Hardware by cleanIn terms of performance, NVIDIA is the undisputed leader. The first five lines are occupied by models of this company. The best AMD video cards are in sixth and seventh place - the Radeon VII and RX 5700 XT.

In addition to performance, price plays an important rolevideo cards. After the $350 mark, AMD models become more competitive. However, in terms of performance, NVIDIA video cards look better.

As for energy consumption, here again the “green” models show themselves better. Models in the upper and lower price segments look especially good.

Experts also assessed the technologies offeredvideo cards, including ray tracing from NVIDIA. This, by the way, is not the only difference between models from different companies. NVIDIA graphics cards also support Variable rate shading (VRS), a technology designed to improve performance by optimizing shading, and Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS), an NVIDIA RTX technology that leverages AI capabilities to improve frame rates in graphics-intensive games. In general, NVIDIA is still the leader in this criterion.

If we talk about drivers and software, then both companies provide good software. The choice of one or the other here is purely a matter of taste.

In the end, experts compared the prices of video cards. The most expensive AMD model currently worth buying is the RX 5700 XT. And it's 13% faster on average than the RTX 2060 Super. Overall, AMD offers better value options.

As a result, NVIDIA is the leader in five criteria. But something can change with the release of new products from AMD.
