Poll: 26% of American adults get news from YouTube

In a study published by the Researchby the Pew Research Center, 26% of US adults said they now hear news on YouTube. This includes 23% through videos posted by news organizations and 23% from independent channels. The researchers interviewed 12.6 thousand American adults.

“We found that YouTube is now thrivingboth well-known news organizations and independent content creators. In our world, traditional media no longer have complete control over the news that Americans hear, ”the authors write.

66% of respondents said that newsthe videos they watch on YouTube help them better understand current events, while 73% believe that these materials are accurate and do not “mislead them.” 68% of those surveyed indicated that they were watching a video, and don't just listen to the sound.

Respondents also often said that they are not looking forjust news, but spokesmen for different points of view on facts. When asked what makes YouTube a unique place to get news, the study notes that the site contains many "different opinions that may not be in the mainstream."
