Poland officially confirmed the fall of a Russian missile on its territory - it flew 450 km past American and Polish fighters

The other day we wrote that fragments of the Russian X-55 missile (AS-15 Kent according to NATO codification) were discovered in Poland.

Polish Defense Minister Mariusz Błaszczak confirmed that a Russian missile fell in the country, but did not name the type.

What is known

Fragments of ammunition were found by local residents15 km from the village of Bygdosch. It is located 450 km from the border with Ukraine. Why the Polish air defense system allowed the missile to fly such a distance is currently unknown.

Mariusz Blaszczak confirmed that the aerial targetfell on the territory of Poland on December 16, 2022. On this day, the Russian Federation carried out another massive shelling of Ukraine. The air defense forces shot down 60 Kh-101/555 and Caliber cruise missiles. In total, 76 launches were made that day.

Specialists of the Polish Air Force Institute of Technologyfound that the X-55 missile, which has a maximum launch range of 2,500 km, fell on the territory of the country. The X-555 mentioned above is a deep modernization of the X-55.

On December 16, Ukraine notified its western neighbor aboutthe approach of a Russian missile. Polish radar stations were also able to locate the target. After that, fighters of the Polish Air Force and the US Air Force were raised into the sky.

Mariusz Blaszczak noted that the Center for Airoperations correctly responded to the appearance of an unknown object in the airspace of Poland. However, the commander did not report this to the Minister of Defense. The reasons for this decision are not specified. Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki recently also said that he learned about the fall of the rocket at the end of last month.
