Materials scientists from the United States presented the first electroinjection laser, which was made of germanium
This is a study by several teams of scientists.from Arizona State University, University of Massachusetts Boston, Dartmouth College in New Hampshire. The researchers wanted to immediately implement the technology for practical use - so they partnered with Arktonics, a semiconductor equipment manufacturer in Arkansas.
“Our results are a great achievement for laser designers. This laser integration method will greatly improve circuitry for electronic devices. "
An alloy of germanium and tin is promisinga semiconductor that easily integrates into electronic circuits such as computer chips and sensors. This material could lead to the development of low-cost, lightweight, compact and low-power electronic components that use light for information transmission and sensing.
Researchers in the lab have demonstrated the material's effectiveness as a powerful semiconductor alloy. However, they will have to modify the laser so that it can be used in practice.
