"Clamshell" without folds and external screen: what will be the first folding smartphone OPPO

Chinese company OPPO seems to be planning to join the foldable smartphone club.

OPPO has patented a foldable smartphone design with the World Intellectual Property Organization. And the publication LetsGoDigital compiled renderings of the device based on this documentation.

Judging by them, the gadget resembles the Motorola RAZRand Samsung Galaxy Z Flip. That is, it is a “clamshell” that when unfolded looks like a regular smartphone, and when folded it has a fairly compact size. The hinge also allows you to fix the display in a specific position - 30, 60, 90 and 180 degrees. The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip has the same function: it allows you to place the device on a surface without any stands or cases and use the split screen more effectively.

In addition, OPPO assures that this smartphone will not have a crease on the fold of the screen. Let us remind you that the already released models have not yet gotten rid of this problem.

But this “clamshell” does not have an external screen - only a large flexible display, so the smartphone will have to be constantly opened.

Of course, this is just a patent, so it is unclear whether OPPO will bring this idea to life.
