Rospotrebnadzor noted that for the firstIn the first six months of this year, 47,712 cases of COVID-19 in children were identified in Russia. This represents 8.4% of the total number of infected people. In 49.9% of infected children, the disease was mild, and in 32.3% it was asymptomatic.
A severe form was observed in only 0.2% of those infected. No more than 8% of patients, mostly over seven years old, suffered pneumonia, Rospotrebnadzor reported.
The department explained that a light currentcoronavirus infection in children can be explained by the so-called competition of viruses that are simultaneously present on the respiratory mucosa. It is also likely that in children, the ACE receptor, to which the coronavirus attaches, is not enough in the respiratory tract, lungs and intestines.
