Russian companies may restrict the use of AI and Big Data

The project was published on the commission’s website at the end of November this year and is intended to increase accessibility

use of data for business and research while respecting consumer protection under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) 2016.

As stated in the press release, the project aims toto “promote data sharing in the EU, working for the welfare of society, strengthening control and increasing the trust of both citizens and companies in relation to their data.”

The document provides for two types of ordersdata: commercial and free. The EU will allow companies to share commercially sensitive user data only through an independent intermediary, who will transfer the information in a secure form and format. This approach to work will be problematic for both American IT giants and Russian businesses, the publication’s expert notes.

An important innovation will be that, according toa project in which the transfer of data to countries whose level of data protection does not correspond to the European one will be subject to restrictions. Because of it, Yandex and Mail.ru Group, Aviasales and OneTwoTrip, as well as air carriers, marketplaces and medical services, specifically those that work with AI and Big Data, may suffer.
