The head of Sega called blockchain games like “play to earn” boring

According to Bloomberg, SEGA is temporarily suspending the release of blockchain games, but completely

rejects the use of technology:

“Actions in games “play toearn” boring. What's the point of them if they don't bring pleasure?”, – says Shuji Utsumi, co-chief operating officer of Sega

What is known

SEGA is known for its hero Sonic the Hedgehog and itallows third party partners to create NFT games using some of its franchises, notably Three Kingdoms and Virtua Fighter. However, for now, she has refrained from linking her most popular characters to blockchain titles to avoid potential undermining of her intellectual property:

“Ultimately, we are testing whether this technology will really take off in this area”, – Utsumi added

Despite declining interest in blockchain games,SEGA still plans to continue investing in this industry, although the chances of it becoming popular with a wider audience in the future are still hard to predict.
