UPD: The Embassy of the Russian Federation in Minsk reported that journalists Semyon Pegov, Anton Starkov and Dmitry
During the mass rallies, the Belarusian authorities wentto use force against journalists. These actions began even before the end of the election day - a journalist of the Dozhd TV channel, who was engaged in professional activities, was detained and deported from the country in the streets of Minsk. After the end of election day, during night clashes, Maksim Solopov, a journalist for the Meduza newspaper, was severely beaten and detained. The editors do not know about his location and cannot contact him for more than 12 hours. The police also detained the founder of the WarGonzo project Semyon Pegov - nothing is known about his location either. Correspondents of the Daily Storm, Anton Starkov and Dmitry Lasenko, suffered at the hands of law enforcement agencies. During the second day of the rallies, a journalist from the Nasha Niva newspaper was wounded in the leg.
In addition, the authorities began to block access tomost of the sites and services where the election process was covered. The shutdown of the Internet in Belarus, which the authorities decided to do “to prevent provocations,” resulted in people being unable to make online payments, most applications not working for them, and some citizens unable to reach their relatives by phone. We believe that that restricting access to information in this situation is unacceptable.
We, the "Hi-Tech" publication and representatives of RussianThe media demand that the Belarusian authorities provide information on the condition and location of journalists. In case they were hurt, they should be provided with assistance and given the opportunity to contact their relatives and the editorial office that sent them to Belarus to carry out professional activities. We insist on their immediate release.
If the information about beatings of journalists is confirmed, then those representatives of the authorities who are guilty of this should be punished.
