Media: Oracle wins US TikTok tender

News of the deal with Oracle appeared in the media just an hour after Microsoft officially announced that the company

is not acquiring TikTok.Reason: Her offer was rejected by TikTok owner ByteDance. Microsoft has struck a deal to buy TikTok's operations in the US, Australia, Canada and New Zealand. Negotiations did not result in a full acquisition of the company, and instead, Oracle won the bid to become TikTok's technology partner, WSJ reports. As a result, Oracle may act as a cloud service provider rather than a parent company with direct control.

On August 6, Trump signed an executive orderblocking all transactions with ByteDance. The order required a US company to acquire TikTok's US business. The project was scheduled to take effect within 45 days. The President initially threatened a September 15 deadline for selling TikTok, then set a November 12 deadline, threatening a potential ban. That led TikTok to sue the Trump administration over an alleged lack of due process and the possibility that China would block the deal or allow it to be sold without its key algorithm.

Oracle has reportedly had a long history of partnership with the US government, making its partnership with TikTok an important strategic move for Washington.
