Apple Music premiered Eight Songs From Isolation, the world's first recorded opera

This is a 40-minute opera by the famous Britishconducted by Oliver Zeffman. It brought together eight composers from around the world who chose texts about isolation based on their own experiences over the past five months of the pandemic.
Composers include Grammy winner ThomasAdes and European Academy Prize winner Ilya Demutsky, performers: British opera diva Sarah Connolly, one of the most sought-after academic performers of the 21st century, Iestin Davis, as well as the winner of the international vocal competition “Singer of the World” Andrey Kimach.

The film was directed by Billy Boyd Cape, andfilmed “Eight Songs from Isolation” on an iPhone 11 Pro smartphone. Zeffman conducted the orchestra in the studio, and the performers were filmed separately, mostly in their homes.

“Crises often prompted artists to createnot just new creations, but also new ways of working. The pandemic that has swept the world has made impossible two fundamental requirements of most art forms—artists interacting with each other, and artists interacting with audiences,” Zeffman noted.
