Smartphone-based robot created

Intel engineers have created a robot based on a smartphone. The latter serves the former as a camera and

computing unit.

In addition to a smartphone, the new robot includesother components responsible for its movement. Their total cost is approximately $50. The components can be 3D printed. We need four wheels that will be driven by individual motors connected to the board. The board is connected to the Arduino Nano, which, in turn, communicates with the smartphone via USB.

The smartphone can make the robot drive through a corridor with obstacles or simply follow a person in front of the camera. In the latter case, the neural network itself detects people in the frame.

Engineers have published on GitHub models for 3D printing the enclosure. All the required source code should be released soon.
