Information has appeared online that, through the joint efforts of researchers from Harvard University and
The size of the device is similar to an ordinary onea tennis ball, but even with such modest dimensions, the robot provides the highest precision when carrying out operations at the microscale level. The basis for the development is a metal platform – it is supported by a structure made of a composite material that is highly flexible. Only three special high-precision drives are responsible for controlling the various parts of the robot.
As part of testing a new development, scientiststhey connected the robot with a kind of “three-dimensional joystick” that digitized the movements of a person’s hand and transmitted them to a device that exactly repeated them. And so, the test participant, observing only through a microscope, ran the tip of the instrument along the perimeter of a square smaller than the size of a ball in the tip of an ordinary pen. After that, the robot performed this operation independently in automatic mode with an accuracy 68% higher than the accuracy of human movement. Thus, the latest development of the joint group of researchers can clearly be considered a breakthrough, on the basis of which future solutions can be developed.
