A potentially dangerous asteroid will pass near Earth from 13 to 14 January

We are talking about asteroid 2020 WU5, which was discovered on November 29, 2020 in images taken by a space telescope

NEOWISE (Wide-Field Infrared Survey Explorer), and on December 4 it was included in the Electronic Minor Planet Circular of the International Astronomical Union (IAU).

The found celestial body was attributed toThe "Apollo" group are near-Earth objects whose orbits intersect the earth's from the outside. Scientists estimate that its diameter ranges from 0.5 to 1.1 km.

Despite the fact that the space object will pass far enough from the Earth (from 8.1 to 7.5 million km), it is classified as potentially dangerous. It will come as close as possible to Earth on the night of January 14th.

The message notes that observers will be able tosee how the asteroid moves against the background of the constellation Gemini in the direction of the constellation Auriga. In the middle latitudes of the Northern Hemisphere there will be good conditions for its observation.
