The pace is impressive - the sixth prototype of the South Korean KF-21 fighter made its first flight

Recently, the sixth prototype of the aircraft took to the skies for the first time.It is designed for two pilots, like the fourth prototype.

What is known

At the end of autumn 2022, KAI introduced the fifthfighter prototype. It was intended for delivery to Indonesia, but the handover was delayed due to delays in payments. A few months later, KAI flight tested the sixth KF-21 prototype, which should be the last.

Defense Procurement Program Directorate (DefenseThe Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA) reported this week that the KF-21 successfully took off and landed. The first test flight of the sixth prototype lasted for 33 minutes.

In future tests, DAPA and KAI will evaluate the workaviation electronics, including a radar station with an active phased array antenna. Also, the flight range will gradually increase.

During the first test, the aircraft flew with at least two Meteor air-to-air missiles, but did not launch. Previously, KAI tested the Meteor and IRIS-T missiles on the second prototype fighter.
