Turkish scientists have developed an NFC sensor that can detect rotten food in the refrigerator

Scientists from the University of Istanbul (Turkey) presented their new development - a tiny sensor that

knows how to identify spoiled food in the refrigerator.

How it works

The sensor can monitor the condition of products, rich in protein: meat, fish, chicken, etc. When such food begins to spoil, it releases biogenic amines - organic compounds toxic to humans. The sensor determines their quantity and can tell how fresh the meat is or whether it has already spoiled and is not suitable for consumption.

Currently, these indicators can only be trackedwith the help of special expensive equipment. However, the sensor developed by Turkish scientists will help reduce the amount of waste and protect against poisoning from stale food.

According to the developers, the tiny sensor can beinstall in your home refrigerator or on a store display. It is cheap to produce and convenient to use. The sensor connects via NFC to a smartphone and transmits information about the condition of the meat to it. There is no need to charge it, since for autonomous operation it uses a connection to a nearby smartphone.

Scientists tested their development on samples of chicken and beef, which were stored under different conditions, and it showed fairly accurate results.
