After updating to iOS 9, your iPhone will automatically switch between Wi-Fi and cellular networks to

provide you with the best possible communication option. The downside is that your iPhone may end up using a lot more cellular data than you expected.

Business Insider reports that someusers see a significant increase in data usage after upgrading to iOS 9. Twitter user Jim Ray points out that he saw an increase in data usage of up to 7GB from 1-2GB after upgrading to iOS 9, and he suspects this is due to the WiFi Assist feature (Help with Wi-Fi).

If you notice that your device is using up your mobile data excessively, then the Wi-Fi Assist feature is probably to blame. Here's how you can turn it off.

  1. OpenSettingsand presscellular.
  2. At the very bottom of the sectioncellulardisable “Wi-Fi Assist”.

That's all! With the Wi-Fi assistant turned off, your iPhone will not automatically switch to a 3G or 4G network. However, you can still use 3G and 4G networks when you are far from a Wi-Fi network.
