Amazon's smart grocery carts will replace cashiers in 2020

Go, opened to the public in 2018, allowsbuy goods without queuing at the checkout. The company has become acclimated to the grocery market over the past few years, but with new technology, Amazon hopes to make the shopping experience more enjoyable and differentiate itself from other retailers.

Buyers must have an Amazon account and smartphone to use the Dash Cart. After entering the store, users scan the QR code located in the Amazon app.

Each cart is equipped with cameras thatuse computer vision to identify items placed in bags inside carts. And also a built-in scale for weighing. For items such as fresh produce, shoppers enter a four-digit item code and quantity into a display that records weight and price. The cart is also equipped with a coupon scanner that applies any discounts to the customer's order. The carts are designed for small to medium-sized grocery purchases where shoppers can leave the store with one or two bags of items.

As shoppers add and remove items, the display on the front of the cart adjusts the total price.

After selecting products, buyers exit throughAlley Dash Cart Store. The company charges the credit card associated with their Amazon account and sends a copy of the receipt by email.
