Scientists: another accident may occur in Norilsk

Experts carried out calculations in two zones of CHPP-3. One of them contained an emergency tank and three containers, in

in another zone there are five similar tanks. In the second zone, the same processes are taking place that were recorded in the first zone, where the accident occurred.

Scientists base their conclusions on the analysis of radarpictures of the speed and distance the soil is moving in the area of ​​the tanks. For the analysis, the scientists modified existing technologies, thanks to which the ground displacement was estimated with an accuracy of 2–4 mm.

Now the employees of the FITS ICT are improvingsoftware that automatically analyzes radar images. The new development will be able to keep accumulating archives of images and analyze in real time natural-man-made processes, including those associated with the melting of permafrost.

ICT SB RAS specialists continue to analyze the risks of accidents at other fuel storage tanks in Norilsk.

As a reminder, on May 29, more than 21 thousand cubic meters of water were spilled on the territory of CHPP-3 of the Norilsk-Taimyr Energy Company. m of oil products. The incident was caused by the subsidence of the concrete platform and the destruction of the reservoir.
