Scientists will decipher the code of previously unknown microorganisms: they were found in Crimea

Let us remind you that the cave was discovered in June 2018 during the construction of the federal highway "Tavrida" on

Crimean peninsula. Unknown microorganisms were found here, the age of which is tentatively about 5 million years.

We hope to identify among cave microorganismsnew types of communities, as well as study new, previously undescribed ways of transformation of matter, transformation of minerals, ways of their interaction, chains of transfer of substrates and energy.

Yuri Gogolev, Professor, Doctor of Biological Sciences, Head of the Laboratory of Molecular Biology of the Kazan Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

The samples that were found will be placed incryogenic installations, and after that they will isolate whole DNA, purify and decipher the genetic code. Genetic research, according to Gogolev, can take more than one year.

According to the senior teacher of the departmentof geography and geomorphology of the Faculty of Geography of the Kazan Federal University and the first explorer of the cave Gennady Samokhin, Tavrida is unique in that it was not exploited, it did not come into contact with the external environment for a long time and was in a conserved state, therefore, communities that scientists from Kazan will try to characterize have survived and developed in it ...
