It is believed that 85% of all matter in the universe is dark matter. She can't be seen, but she
Science knows that dark matter is, as it were, gathers into clumps, forming the beginnings of galaxy clusters. Dark matter also often forms a halo around the galactic disk. It is assumed that the halo mass is the main component of the total mass of the galaxy.
Recently, a team of scientists from the Harvard-SmithsonianCenter for Astrophysics launched a detailed simulation of dark matter on a computer. The researchers started from the fact that dark matter consists of weakly interacting massive particles (WIMPs), whose mass is 100 times the mass of a proton.
In the simulation, dark matter formed a halo around the galaxy. But in addition to this, a halo appeared on planets and galaxy clusters. These halos had a similar structure: they were denser towards the center.
Small halos of dark matter are hard to spotby their gravitational effect. But there is a hypothesis that when dark matter particles collide, gamma radiation is formed. In the computer model, most of the gamma radiation came from small halos of dark matter.
