Scientists "crossed" a butterfly and a drone

Information has appeared online about a new development by scientists from the University of Washington. It's called new

Smellicopter, and it is a drone “crossed” with a butterfly.

The drone is able to capture odors andfollow them, avoiding various obstacles along the way, according to the university's website. To make this real, the engineers took the antennae from the Manduca sexta butterfly and connected them to a drone. According to the scientists who developed the Smellicopter, their choice fell on a "natural sensor", since the rest of the options, created by human hands, did not have sufficient accuracy to recognize specific odors during flight.
