Researchers added superabsorbent to soilgel. It consists of substances that can absorb water vapor from the air and compress when the temperature rises above 32 degrees Celsius. The gel is capable of absorbing up to four grams of water per gram of dry matter at a relative air humidity of 90%. When the temperature rises, the material itself releases moisture.
Scientists mixed the gel with sandy soil. One gram of such a mixture can absorb 1.1 grams of water from an atmosphere with 90 percent humidity at 20 degrees Celsius. The researchers grew radishes in such soil. It turned out that it was necessary not to water it in the first days: the shoots survived and developed.
