"IDG works with all major game publishers,and our channel checks indicate that other publishers are also exploring the possibility of raising prices for next-gen games across certain franchises,” he said.
Osaki notes that the price increase will only affect AAA franchises, like NBA 2K, while smaller projects may remain in the old price category.
“Last time, increasing prices for softwarecollateral was observed in 2005 and 2006, when they increased from $49.99 to $59.99 at the start of the Xbox 360 and PS3 generation. During this time, costs and prices in other industries also increased,” he said.
According to Yoshio Osaka, since 2005, game pricesdid not grow, but tickets rose in price by 39%, and Netflix raised the subscription price by 100%. Games, in turn, even taking into account the rise in price from $60 to $70, show an increase of 17%, although entertainment production has already become 200% more expensive.
