“This machine will produce largeamount of Higgs bosons in a very clean environment. So we can make significant progress in mapping various interactions of the Higgs boson with other particles and [allow] measurements to be made with extremely high accuracy, ”CERN said in a press release.
The collider will be built in two stages, it will begindesign in 2038. At the first stage, the researchers will break down the electrons and positrons in order to maximize the production of Higgs bosons - so they can get more accurate particle data. The second version will be a 100 TeV proton collider designed to create new particles that can expand or even replace the Standard Model.
At the same time, researchers directly admit that the newthe project is so expensive that CERN will have to seek funding outside EU member states. To do this, it may be necessary to create a global organization that will include the United States, China and Japan. At the same time, scientists want to improve the Large Hadron Collider. The changes will allow researchers to conduct more particle collisions and increase the chance of detecting rare quantum phenomena.
“The importance of such a device is difficult to sell,especially when he does not have a clear goal. However, some areas of science require verification. We know that the only way to find answers is an experiment, and the only place where you can find them is an environment that did not exist before, ”said British physicist Tara Shears.
