How to use Escape keyboard shortcut
Usually the Escape key is in the upper leftthe corner of the keyboard. But not all keyboards are the same. PC keyboards and individual Apple keyboards typically have an ESC key. However, Mac laptops with Touch Bar do not have a physical Escape key, which is not for everyone.

This keyboard shortcut works on iOS, iPadOS, and macOS. On Mac OS, the combination has been working for many years, and with iPadOS 13.4 it also appeared on tablets.
Other ways to use Escape
The keyboard shortcut above is not the only way to use Escape. If you have a Mac laptop with a Touch Bar, you can display a number of function keys on it, including Escape. For this:
Hold down the keyFunction(fn) in the lower left corner of the keyboard
The ESC softkey appears in the Touch Bar.
If you sometimes start Windows on your Mac using the Apple Boot Camp function, the Touch Bar will automatically display the function keys along with the ESC key.
On iOS and macOS, you can add the Escape action to another modification key:
- Caps lock (⇪)
- Control (⌃)
- Option (⌥)
- Command (⌘)
- Globe
For example, instead of the Escape key, you canuse caps lock or the small Globe key. We do not recommend using other keys, especially Command, since it is used for many combinations.

Key actions can be changed on Mac for a long time, but on iPhone, iPod touch and iPad only since iOS and iPadOS 13.4.
On iOS and iPadOS, go toSettings → General → Keyboard → Physical Keyboard → Modification keysand then select some key for the Escape action.
On macOS, go toSystem Settings → Keyboard, go to the tabKeyboardand pressModification Keys. Now select a key like Caps Lock and set it to Escape. After that clickOk.
