On the sixth of December, a Japanese probe will deliver soil from an asteroid to the earth

As reported in a joint statement by the Japanese Aerospace Agency JAXA and the Australian

space agency ASA, the capsule will be dropped in the Australian desert.

The Hayabusa 2 space probe was launched onasteroid Ryugu in 2014. During this time, he landed twice on the surface of an asteroid, 340 million kilometers away from Earth, to take soil and dust samples. In March 2019, scientists found that Ryugu contains water-containing minerals with elements of oxygen and hydrogen, which also became an event in the history of human space exploration.

The probe had to “shoot” into the surface of the asteroid using an explosive device and create an artificial crater. The soil was taken from there.

Scientists believe that it is precisely the samples of rock obtained from the bowels of the asteroid that will allow humanity to come closer to the unraveling of the formation of the solar system and the emergence of life.
