According to satellite monitoring, the islandsize 410 by 200 m formed on July 9 after the collapse of the ice barrier. It connected the Northern Island on Novaya Zemlya with the retreating Vilkitsky South Glacier. Together with the remaining ice cover, the height of the island reaches 27 m, its area is 5.6 hectares.
It is no secret that in the Arcticit becomes warmer, glaciers retreat and land appears in their place. The guys discovered, albeit small, but, nevertheless, a real island that should be included on sea charts.
