SpaceX's Crew Dragon capsule entered Earth's atmosphere on Saturday evening and splashed down near the eastern
The area where the crew fell into the Atlantic Oceanwas about 50 kilometers east of NASA's Kennedy Space Center, where they launched into space on a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket last Wednesday. Beginning at approximately 19:02 Eastern Time (03:02 the next day Kyiv time), Crew Dragon deployed two sets of parachutes – an initial set of two and a final set of four – to facilitate descent towards the ocean. The landing occurred at approximately 7:06 p.m. Eastern Time. SpaceX recovery teams headed to the capsule in boats to pick up the crew.
The crew returned to Earth withoutincidents. They survived an expected roughly seven-minute communications blackout with SpaceX's mission control center in California due to the envelope of plasma that forms around the capsule during turbulent re-entry. During reentry, the outer surface of the spacecraft heated up to 1,900 degrees Celsius, but the crew remained comfortable thanks to flight suits and an enhanced air conditioning system inside the capsule.
