Experts have checked how much memory a graphics card should have for the latest games

The author of Overclockers.ru checked how the amount of video memory affects the performance of video cards in games. Expert

tested models with four, six and eight GB of video memory.

The author chose three GeForce RTX 2060 video cardsSuper 8192 MB, GeForce RTX 2060 6144 MB and GeForce GTX 1650 Super 4096 MB. According to the expert, the performance of the models is relatively close. The author decided to measure the percentage of performance degradation when moving from one resolution to another. He calculated the parameter using the formula: (Current resolution / 1920x1080) * 100. The higher the resolution, the more the performance of video cards decreases.

The models were tested in Anno 1800 games,Assassin's Creed Unity, Battlefield 1, Crysis 3, Death Stranding, Deliver Us The Moon, Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Breakpoint, Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege.

The author made a diagram of the geometric meanperformance of video cards in games. It shows that at resolutions of 1920 x 1080, 2560 x 1080 and 2560 x 1440, the performance decreased slightly. But at resolutions 3440 x 1440 and especially at 3840 x 2160, the performance drop for models with less than six gigabytes of video memory was noticeable. However, one should understand that at such resolutions, these graphics accelerators, in principle, showed low performance in half of the games.
