Since May 2019, Wikipedia has been working to improve the desktop interface, with a focus on
Upcoming desktop changes includereconfigured logo, collapsible sidebar, table of contents and more. A full list of new features is available on MediaWiki. All changes will occur gradually to allow for extensive user testing and feedback. If all goes according to plan, all improvements will take effect by the end of 2021, timed to celebrate Wikipedia's 20th anniversary.
The first change, the collapsible sidebar,Allows users to collapse the long menu that appears on the left side of each page. This innovation helps the user to focus on the content itself, be it reading or editing.
The second change concerns the maximumline width of content on pages where the focus is on reading, such as article pages and talk pages. Research has shown that limiting the width can reduce eye strain.
These are the first of many changes in the long andcomplex process, there will still be errors, adjustments and iterations. We invite anyone interested in our changes to try them out and provide feedback.
