11 species of animals declared extinct in Russia

According to the Russian Ministry of Natural Resources, according to the results of the latest inventory, it turned out that 11 species of animals are

territories of the country are considered probably extinct. 

Such a decision is usually made if the number of a species has decreased dangerously and/or its range has shrunk, as well as unfavorable changes in living conditions. 

11 more objects of the living world according to the resultsof the last inventory are classified as rarity 0, that is, probably disappeared. Among them are the population of the Atlantic sturgeon from the Black Sea basin, the aboriginal population of the Baltic sturgeon, red-footed ibis, black-bellied capercaillie, Yankovsky's bunting, monk seal, kulan, Przewalski's horse and others.

Such amendments and additional restrictions are introduced into the Red Book by a separately created commission, which includes representatives of leading scientific organizations.

The total area of ​​specially protected natural areas, taking into account the sea area, exceeds 240 million hectares, or 13% of the area of ​​Russia.

In total, at the moment, 443 objects of the animal world and 676 species of plants are included in the Red Book.
