At the end of 2022, Bell won a tender to produce the V-280 Valor tiltrotor aircraft to replace the Black Hawk and Apache.
What is known
Sikorsky and Boeing participated in the Future tenderLong Range Assault Aircraft (FLRAA) with the joint project Defiant X. You can see the image of the helicopter below, but the technical characteristics are not yet known. The companies filed a protest with the United States Government Accountability Office (GAO). Recently, the department finally approved Bell as the winner in the tender.

GAO believes the US Army is rightevaluated the projects of each of the companies. The agency rejected the claims of Sikorsky and Boeing. They were betting that the US Army misjudged Bell's proposal. Despite this, Sikorsky representatives said that the Defiant X is a less risky, cheaper and more effective choice for the army.

However, it will be Bell who will receive the first contractworth $1.3 billion. The funds will be used to continue the development of the V-280 Valor tiltrotor. The US Army will then commit $7 billion for low-rate initial production, and the total program cost could reach $70 billion.
US Army wants to replace 3,200 Black helicoptersHawk and Apache (2000 and 1200 respectively). How many tiltrotor V-280 Valor will be put into service is still unknown. However, it is clear that we are not talking about a 1 to 1 replacement.
