Lead researcher Dr. Selvakannan Periasami noted that their work addresses one of the biggest challenges in hypersonic aircraft development: controlling the heat that builds up when aircraft travel at more than five times the speed of sound.
“Our laboratory tests have shown that 3D-printed catalysts can be used for future hypersonic flights,” the scientists noted.
